Ogheh was the original name of Ogiso Uwa but to show that he was born into prosperity, he took the title Uwa meaning prosperity. He lacked the war like qualities of his father, but he reined tor 54 years.

He was one of the richest Ogiso that ruled in Igodomigodo. He was very ostentatious and spent lavishly on the grandeur of his court as well as the large body of attendants or stewards of the chamber known as Ibierugha They ensued that he lives a life of ease, by rendering him sundry services including spying on the subjects and vassals. He appointed only those who were prepared to do his bidding as ministers (Uko).

Throughout the 54 years on the throne, Uwa and his courtiers lived in the utmost splendour and extravagance. ‘Uwaymwen’ meaning?‘I love Wealth or “Enruwa” meaning ‘he who is in wealth, were his other names and was regarded as the shinning sun on the throne. Inspire of Ogiso Uwa’s ostentation lifestyle and gaiety, he paid equal attention to the affairs of the state. He initially maintained a standing army but he later discharged most of them into farming. He encouraged trade with people outside Igodomigodo.

BRASS WORK
Ogiso Uwa introduced (Oze) lead or tin or a mixture of both and (Eronmwon) brass to Igodornigodo. These were obtained through long distance trade which flourished in his time from ldah and Idoma markets. The lost wax of brass casting also developed from the new experience gained in iron smiting which were transferred to brass casting. Iron casting and smiting was so widespread that it becomes general use, but brass casting remained restricted because the materials were very scarce and expensive. This was why it was restricted to a particular group of people and for decoration for the shrine of Ogiso by the Ughoron. The brass in use at that time was not as heavy as those found today. So it is not true as Dr. J.U. Egharevba asserted that it was Oguola that invite someone from Ife to teach Benin brass casting. This Art has been known for many centuries before Oguola came to the throne.

OVIO
During his reign, there lived in Igodornigodo, many famous men of wealth and influence. Qvio was one of the richest noble men with considerable influence in Igodomigodo. He was generous and popular. He gave people food and money without expecting repayment.
This attracted people to his house and it became a meeting place. Chiefs would first of all visit Ovio before going to the palace. This earned him praise names and some even compared him with their king or Ogiso, because he fed them with food and drinks on daily basis. When news of Ovio reached Ogiso Uwa, he was conscious and did want to confront him for he, (Uwa) knew that Ovio has manv followers. Ovio on the other hand was not discrete about this ostentatious display of his wealth and influence in the Kingdom. Ovio always paraded the streets in flowing rohes and with many followers singing his praises while he gave them money in return.

Ogiso Uwa did not like this Seeming rivalry and planned how to reduce Ovio’s influence once and for all In order to defeat Ovio, he allocated a gate to him in the palace and decreed that only Ovio himself should pass through the gate. It was called “Urho Ovio” meaning ‘Ovio’s gateway’. All other chiefs were forbidden to pass through that gate only at the risk of their lives. This made Ovio an outcast. People avoided Ovio and his gate. He became almost alone in the city. No Chief visited him again and ordinary people avoided his house. When Ovio could not stand this ostracisation any more, he packed away from the city and went to settle in a place called Obio near Ubulu Uku and Umunede today. He became the Obi of Obio (Qyio).

Uwa saw the emigration of Ovio as a great victory. There was no rebellion during Uwa’s reign and he did not use violent force like his father. On his death, he was succeeded by his son Eheneden. He ruled for 54 years.
